Melling 24301
Hydraulic flat tappet camshaft for Ford 289 / 302 Small Block engines. Stage 3 / Class III profile for stronger builds.
Melling 24301 is a hydraulic flat tappet camshaft for Ford 289 / 302 Small Block engines. The Stage 3 / Class III profile is significantly stronger than a stock-style replacement cam and is intended for more developed street-performance combinations.
Application / fitment
The camshaft is intended for selected Ford Small Block 289 and 302 engines using hydraulic flat tappet lifters. With this profile, compression, valve springs, lifters, valvetrain geometry, exhaust, induction and drivetrain gearing must be matched properly.
- Ford Small Block 289 CID
- Ford Small Block 302 / 5.0 CID
- selected Ford and Mercury applications with 289 / 302 engines
Typical automotive applications include selected Ford Mustang, Falcon, Fairlane, Torino, Maverick, Granada, F-Series, Bronco and Mercury Cougar, Comet and related models with 289 / 302 engines from approximately 1962–1985. The Class III profile may produce a rougher idle and improved power in the mid- to upper-rpm range.
Before installation, check valve spring pressure, coil bind clearance, piston-to-valve clearance, pushrod length, rocker arm geometry and the flat tappet camshaft break-in procedure.
