Standard Motor Product RW34 is an ignition coil resistance wire / resistor used in older ignition systems to limit voltage and current supplied to the coil. It performs a similar function to a ballast resistor, but in a wire-style form designed for the ignition harness.

Application / fitment

This component is used in ignition systems requiring current limiting in the coil primary circuit. Selection depends on wiring diagram, coil type, resistance wire presence and cranking bypass circuit design.

  • classic ignition systems using resistance in the coil circuit
  • installations with resistance wire
  • breaker points ignition systems
  • repair or restoration of factory ignition coil feed wiring

Before installation, confirm whether the coil requires current limiting. Too little resistance can overheat the coil and points, while too much resistance can cause weak spark output.
