ENGINETECH ES1217R is a Stage 1 hydraulic flat-tappet camshaft for classic Ford Small Block Windsor engines. The profile is intended to improve low- and mid-range torque while retaining street-oriented drivability.

Application / fitment

The primary application is Ford 289 CID / 4.7 L and 302 CID / 5.0 L engines using hydraulic flat followers and the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 firing order. The camshaft is also sold for selected 351W installations, but it imposes the 289/302 firing order; ignition leads must be rearranged and complete valvetrain compatibility must be confirmed.

  • Ford 289 CID / 4.7 L Windsor V8 – selected applications from the 1960s
  • Ford 302 CID / 5.0 L Windsor V8 – selected cars, vans and light trucks through approximately 1987
  • Ford 351W CID / 5.8 L – only with deliberate use of the ES1217R firing order and full compatibility checks
  • selected Ford Bronco, F-Series, Econoline, Mustang, Fairlane and Falcon plus Mercury and Lincoln applications

This is not a hydraulic roller camshaft. Use new hydraulic flat-tappet lifters, appropriate assembly lubricant and a correct camshaft break-in procedure with a suitable anti-wear oil. Reusing old lifters can rapidly damage the cam lobes.
