Clean the air cleaner housing and lid and check the base and lid gaskets. The element must seat evenly top and bottom – a gap lets unfiltered air in, and a filter that is too tall will stop the lid or hood from closing. Tighten the wing nut by hand without crushing the element.
Check the dimensions. The same models used different air cleaner housings (depending on carburettor and version). Compare the outside and inside diameter and height with the old filter before ordering.
